Paddon Leads Davidson, Named Freshman of the Year at SoCon Women’s Cross Country Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman Sarah Paddon earned all-conference and freshman of the year honors while pacing Davidson to an eighth-place finish at the Southern Conference Women's Cross Country Championship Saturday morning at the Trophy Lakes course.
Paddon, junior Natalie Atabek and freshman Erin Osment were the Wildcats' top finishers as the 'Cats accrued 178 points. UNCG won the team title, led by Ashley Schnell. Schnell defended her title as she won the individual women's title on the 5K course, finishing in a time of 16:33.10, which set the new course record at Trophy Lakes by 20 seconds.
Paddon placed 12th overall in a personl-best 17 minutes, 42.20 seconds. Atabek and Osment placed in 26th (18:04.70) and 27th (18:06.20), respectively. Osment also earned a place on the SoCon All-Freshman team.
“Up front we had a great race,” said Davidson head coach Jen Straub. “I'm very proud of Sarah and Natalie ran awesome in her first race back in six weeks.”
Freshman Manya Swick was Davidson's fourth finisher in 53rd place (18:49.2), while freshman Lauren Carter rounded out the top-five scoring group in 67th place (19:11.6).
Davidson will next compete at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Louisville, Ky.
