DAVIDSON, N.C. — Drew Onken won three individual events to lead the Davidson men's swimming and diving team to a 161-127 victory over William & Mary Saturday afternoon in Cannon Natatorium.
The Davidson women's team fell 189-105 to the Tribe.
Onken won the 100 breast (58.27), 200 breast (2:06.36) and 200 IM (1:53.63), and the junior also swam on the first-place 400 medley relay team.
Curtis Chaney won the 100 free (47.10) and 200 free (1:41.96), while Geoff Peitz won the 100 (51.92) and 200 back (1:53.78.
Joe Burquist placed first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.87, a personal best for an in-season swim, and Ben Stewart-Bates picked up his first collegiate win in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.13.
Peitz, Burquist and Chaney also swam on the medley relay team, which won the event with a time of 3:25.27. Nick Taylor won the 1-meter diving, while Tim Keating placed first on the 3-meter board.
Kelsi Hobbs won the 100 back for the Davidson women with a time of 1:00.01, while Meredith Nakano won the 200 breast with a time of 2:24.84. Kaliya Burton-Akright won both diving events.
"I'm exceedingly proud of our teams today,” said head coach John Young. “We had teammates inspiring each other in almost every event, and the momentum that we generated led to a number of very nice performances. If we continue to place a high value on performances and continue to recognize the positive effect that our efforts have on our teammates, this team will give itself a chance to be very good by season's end."
Both Wildcat teams are back in action next Saturday when they travel to College of Charleston for a 1 p.m. Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association meet.
