Sanders Named to CS360 Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll
10/24/2011 8:09:00 PM | Men's Soccer
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson senior goalkeeper Chip Sanders received his second national honor of the week Monday evening, as CollegeSoccer360.com recognized him as one of 12 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Primetime Performers for games Oct. 17-23.
Sanders (Thomasville, Ga.), a team tri-captain, made seven saves in a 1-0 upset win over No. 2 North Carolina Monday, Oct. 17 and made seven more saves in a crucial 1-0 Southern Conference win over Wofford. His shutout of Wofford was his eighth of the season, tying the Wildcat record set by Bart Creasman in 2003.
Selection to the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll is based on the player meeting “primetime” criteria and not just raw stats. Honorees must have been playing in a game involving a top-30 team from the “CS360 Composite National Rankings” (or in a game involving a preseason conference favorite/leader), or performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification. In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments. The honoree must also exhibit strong leadership and/or be involved in clutch performances, such as game-winning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.
Davidson (7-6-2, 2-1-1 SoCon) will host three more crucial Southern Conference contests to conclude the regular season. The next match is Tuesday at 7 p.m. against No. 23 Furman.
The Wildcats will honor their seniors, including Sanders, prior to Saturday's match against Appalachian State, set to start at 7 p.m. in Alumni Stadium. The game will also be the team's inaugural Kick Cancer event to raise money to support the Susan G. Komen foundation and its efforts fight breast cancer.
