Wildcats Host VMI in Final Home Meet of the Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcats will conclude the home portion of the 2010-11 season with a 5 p.m. dual meet against CCSA foe VMI Friday evening at Cannon Natatorium. Davidson wraps up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. dual meet at Gardner-Webb, and the 2011 CCSA Championships begin February 17 in Athens, Ga.
About the Wildcats
The Wildcat women are a perfect 7-0 in CCSA competition this season, picking up wins over Campbell (222-66), Georgia Southern (173-127), Howard (245-42), Liberty (230-55), N.C. A&T ( 248-26) and Radford (229-70) in last weekend's CCSA Duals to go along with a win over College of Charleston (213-84) on October 30. Reigning CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week Lindsey Martin —the league's top performer in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free, earned the weekly honor for a fifth time this season, after winning a pair of individual titles and anchoring the Wildcats' winning 200 medley relay as Davidson swept the six-team field. Classmate Emily Castle has the conference's best time in the 100 fly, while senior Anna Stringfield ranks second in both the 200 backstroke and 400 IM.
The Davidson men are also perfect against conference competition this season, with wins over both Charleston (180-111) and Howard (185-66). Junior Geoffrey Peitz, league top performer in the 100 fly and 100 back, was named CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week after earning the honor for a third time with three individual titles and a relay win against the Bison Saturday. Sophomore Drew Onken, league top performer in the 200 breast, 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM and runner-up in four additional events, has earned the honor three times this season, while senior Bryan Droll (50 free) and sophomore Wills Cooper (100 free) also have league top times.
Freshmen Brian McRae and Kaliya Burton-Akright earned CCSA Men's and Women's Diver of the Week honors, respectively, as Davidson swept the weekly league honors after sweeping Saturday's dual competition. Each earned their third honor of the season.
About the Keydets
The VMI men enter the meet with a 1-1 CCSA record, having defeated Howard (123-76) but lost to Gardner-Webb (76-127). The Keydet men also have wins over New Jersey Tech (155-41; 148-41), Manhattan (116-86) and Catholic (125.5-75.5), against losses to NC State (81-165), Saint Peter's (66-138), Manhattan (88-111) and Saint Peter's (67-136). Kodiak Bowers ranks 13th in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.44, and Matt Dale's time of 10:25.91 is 15th best in the l000 free. Benji Howard (18:17.40), James Wiltshire (20:43.95) and Josh Jeffcoat (21:38.36) are ranked 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 1650 free, and James Goodewille ranks 14th with a time of 56.08 in the 100 back and 12th with a time of 2:01.52 in the 200 IM. Dallas Disbro (240.97) and Nate Myers (206.70) rank second and fourth, respectively, on the 1-meter dive.
The VMI women have just one dual meet win this season, a 109-85 win over Hollins on December 2. The Keydets are winless against CCSA opponents this season, with losses to Liberty (16-169; 18-86), Gardner-Webb (14-187) and Howard (30-129), in addition to losses to Mount St. Mary's (42-134; 28-73), Manhattan (43-117; 37-131), Saint Peter's (49-117; 46-121) and Catholic (20-165). Briana Allard is the lone Keydet woman ranked in the top 16, with scores of 200.00 to rank 12th on the 1-meter dive and 215.24 to rank 13th on the 3-meter.
