In CCSA Tune-up, 'Cats Host Six League Foes Saturday at 1 p.m.

DAVIDSON, N.C. — With two meets remaining before the CCSA Championships get underway in Athens, Ga., Feb. 17, the Davidson Wildcats will measure themselves against six CCSA teams when they host Howard, Campbell, Georgia Southern, Liberty, N.C. A&T and Radford Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cannon Natatorium.
About the Wildcats
Senior Lindsey Martin and sophomore Drew Onken repeated as CCSA Swimmers of the Week, for meets competed Jan. 10-16, behind their performances against Georgia Tech last Saturday. Martin won the 50 free with a time of 24.19 and remained undefeated in the 100 free by winning a share of the title with a time of 51.65. Onken won the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.19, second best in the conference to only his own time of 3:59.11.
Martin has the top time in both events in the league this season and also lead the CCSA in the 200 free (1:49.89). Senior Emily Castle leads the league in the 100 fly with a time of 55.18, and the Wildcats have the fastest 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays in the league. On the men's side, Onken has the best time of the season in four events: the 200 breast (2:05.36), the 200 back (1:52.49), the 200 IM (1:52.47) and the 400 IM (3:59.11). Senior Bryan Droll (50 free, 21.17) and junior Geoffrey Peitz (100 back, 51.56; 100 fly, 50.37) are also league leaders, while the Wildcat men have the fastest 200 and 400 freestyle and 200 medley relays.
About the Liberty Flames
Brye Raventtine became the first Liberty swimmer in the college's history to be name CCSA Swimmer of the Week after swimming season-best times in both the 50 freestyle (24.13) and 100 backstroke (1:00.34) at the Florida Gulf Coast quad meet on Jan. 8. Raventtine has lead her team to a record of 5-4 in the conference. She ranks fourth in the conference in the 50 free and third in the 100 back behind those times, as well seventh in the 100 free (52.62) and 13th in the 100 fly (58.86). Lindsey Romkes (200 free, 1:54.23) and Bethany Wakeley (1650 free, 18:09.48; 200 fly, 2:11.55) are also top-16 performers this season for the Flames.
About the Campbell Camels
The Camels are led by a strong group of freshmen this year. Cheriesse Campbell continued her strong rookie campaign and currently has school records in the 500 free (5:03.85), 200 free (1:54.31), 100 butterfly (58.23) and the 1650 free (17:27.96), while classmate Kylie Warne was named the CCSA's Swimmer of the Week for November 10th. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Burnette currently leads the team in the 50 back, 100 back and 200 back, while senior Ashlyn Stumpf is the team's top 50 free and 100 free swimmer.
About the Howard Bison
Howard senior Ashley Goins was CCSA Women's Diver of the Week for November 8-14, the first time in over 15 years that a Howard University diver received any athletic honor and the first Diver of the Week recipient by a member of the Bison since the conference's first existence in 2007. Goins defeated six Loyola Greyhound divers on Saturday, November 13, scoring a season-best 245.62 in her 1-meter diving routine and another season-best in the 3-meter event with a 199.73. On the men's side, Zadok Isaacs is a top-16 performer in the 50 free (21.77), 100 fly (53.41) 200 fly (2:05.35), 100 back (55.97), 200 back (1:58.52) and 400 IM (4:31.71), as is Darell Hungerford in the 100 breast (1:01.85)
About the Georgia Southern Eagles
The Eagles have competed against four of the six teams in the meet previously, defeating Radford and Liberty in the Florida Gulf Coast quad meet (Jan. 8). Georgia Southern opened the season with wins over Campbell and North Carolina A & T (Oct. 15). GSU split its double-dual meet last Saturday as it defeated CCSA-foe Limestone (166-37), but fell to Gardner-Webb (116-88), in the 22-event meet at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center. The Eagles finished in first or second place 10 times over the course of the day. Senior Caroline Bevillard led Georgia Southern with two individual first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (55.13) and in the 200 free (1:56.81), and classmate Lindsay Goodman was the other Eagle to capture first-place honors winning the 200 backstroke (2:09.48).
About the Radford Highlanders
Radford freshman Skye Hickling was selected CCSA Women's Diver of the Week for November 22-28, after recording a personal-best score on the one-meter board with a mark of 204.35 at the Radford Invitational. She also scored 176.67 in the three-meter event to help the team finish fourth. Highlighted by Dixie Mitchell's season-best performances in the 50 (25.83) and 100-yard (56.72) freestyles, Radford defeated Liberty, 181-111, in CCSA action at the Florida Gulf Coast quad-meet last Saturday at the FGCU Aquatic Center. In addition to her top times of the season, Mitchell touched the wall ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.21.

The Wildcats host CCSA-foe VMI in their final home meet of the season at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 28, before finishing the regular season at Gardner-Webb the following afternoon at 1 p.m. The 2011 CCSA Championships then begin Feb. 17 in Athens, Ga.
