The Wildcats will also host UNC Asheville and travel to Catawba and South Carolina.
“The focus is always about accelerating and moving forward, and spring training must lay the foundation and be the launching pad for our next fall campaign,” said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “Each player has specific performance goals to improve as a soccer player, a leader, and a positive impact.”
The match against the Eagles will kick-off the spring slate on Wednesday, Mar. 16. Davidson coach and recruiting director Kevin O'Brien is a former Eagles player who captained the team in 2003 and 2004, while assistant coaches Greg Dalby and Ryan Souders are both current members of the Eagles.
“The Charlotte Eagles are a thrill to play, as our guys can measure themselves against older, more experienced pros,” said Spear.
The Wildcats will hit the road for their next two matches, visiting defending Conference USA champion South Carolina (Mar. 19, 2 p.m.) and Catawba (Mar. 31, 7 p.m.) The Wildcats defeated South Carolina, then ranked No. 25, during the regular season in 2009. The Gamecocks finished 2010 ranked No. 12 in the nation and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Davidson will host UNC Asheville on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 3 p.m. before hosting Mecklenburg County-rival Charlotte on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m..The 49ers were ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation and finished with a 13-5-1 record in 2010.
“The matches in the spring are very much about developing and testing our players,” said Spear. “We play teams that we did not play in the previous fall season, so these are unique competition experiences.”
