KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Only ACC powers No. 4 North Carolina, No. 11 Duke and No. 14 Wake Forest rank higher than the Davidson men's soccer team in the South region, as the Wildcats moved up to fourth in the third edition of the NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com South Region Rankings Monday.
The Wildcats are 3-1-2 through six games, most recently defeating Gardner-Webb on the road in overtime following a California trip in which they tied No. 13 UC Santa Barbara, 2-2, before falling, 2-0, to No. 17 UCLA after holding the upper-hand in the first half.
Davidson moved past South Carolina and Central Florida in the rankings.
The Wildcats will visit Duke on Oct. 5 and host Wake Forest on Nov. 2. Southern Conference rivals UNCG and College of Charleston also cracked the top 10. UNCG ranks eighth, while CofC is tied with NC State for 10th.
The National Soccer Coaches Association releases polls each week throughout the season.
Davidson will host Virginia Tech Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
