CLEMSON, S.C. -- The Davidson Wildcat women's cross country team raced to a fifth-place finish between a pair of top 20 finishes as competition concluded Friday night at the Clemson Cross Country Invitational.
Seniors Lauren Childs and Heather Conarroe paced the Wildcat women, finishing 15th and 16th overall with times of 18:39.29 and 18:39.80, respectively. Classmate Sarah Cline also finished in the top 25, placing 24th overall with a time of 19:00.
Sophomore Natalie Atabek and freshman Megan Mavity rounded out the scoring for Davidson, finishing in 27th and 30th with times of 19:04.67 and 19:16.80, respectively.
"I feel really good about the progress that we showed today!" head coach Jen Straub said. "We competed against some really good teams today, with Clemson, Charlotte and Georgia State all ranked in their regions. But I think if we keep moving in this direction, we can look for good things at the SoCons."
Clemson won the meet with 22 total points, behind six top 10 finishes, including a time of 16:47.09 from individual champion Kim Ruck. Charlotte finished second with 65 points, followed by USC Upstate (93) and Georgia State (100). The Wildcats were fifth with 108 points, followed by Anderson (177), UNC Asheville (194), Georgia Southern (210) and Fort Valley State (288).
Davidson will return to action Oct. 2 when they travel to the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.
