
Taylor Leads ‘Cats After Two Rounds at Ocean Course

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Junior Jackson Taylor leads the Davidson men's golf team with a two-round, three-over-par 147 (75+72), as the Wildcats rank sixth after the first day of competition at The Invitational at Ocean Course, hosted by College of Charleston.
The Wildcats combined to score 298 on the par-72, 7,504 yard course in both rounds, placing them in the middle of the 12-team field after 36 holes at 596.
Notre Dame (584) holds a one-stroke lead over NC State (585). Southern Conference foe CofC is third at 588, and is followed by Vanderbilt (592), Coastal Carolina (593) and Davidson. UAB (600), Mercer (603), Texas State (603), St. Mary's (609), Maryland (612) and Western Carolina (620) complete the 12-team field.
Taylor (Wilmington, N.C.) fired a three-over-par 75 in the first round, but moved up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth with an even-par 72 in the second round. Sophomore John Skeadas (Savannah, Ga.) led the 'Cats through the first round with a 72 and ranks in a tie for 12th after going four-over-par in the second round.
Freshmen Sam Echikson (Brussels, Belgium) and Richard Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) had strong debuts, placing in ties for 17th (150, six-over) and 21st (151, seven-over), respectively. Seniors Bobby Urso (Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Christopher Rollins (White Plains, N.Y.) are also competing.
The Ocean Course, one of five courses at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, was ranked No. 25 in Golf Digest's 100 Greatest U.S. Golf Courses List and No. 4 on its Best Public Course List. With beautiful Atlantic coastline views from each hole, the course played host to the 2007 Senior PGA and will host the 2012 PGA Championships.
The tournament will resume Tuesday with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. (ET) with 18 holes played on Tuesday.
