DAVIDSON, N.C. — Both the Davidson Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been designated All-Academic Teams, and rising senior Anna Stringfield and rising sophomore Jean DeOrnellas were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-America, by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for the 2009-10 academic year.
To qualify for All-Academic recognition, a team must establish a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Individuals with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, who have been invited to compete at the NCAA Championship are recognized as Scholar All-Americans, and provisional qualifiers with a GPA of 3.5 or above are designated Honorable Mention.
The Davidson women impressed with a team GPA of 3.43, one of the top 25 performances in the country. Fresh off their 2009-10 CCSA Championship, the Wildcat men's team qualified with a team GPA of 3.08, after also earning the honor after the 2007-08 season.
“A team does not prepare so admirably for competition, or perform so admirably in the classroom, without good decision making and great time management,” head coach John Young said. “I am delighted that our student-athletes consistently choose challenges and consistently shine. A team GPA of 3.43 – in such an exceedingly rigorous environment – is a remarkable accomplishment.”
Stringfield '11 and DeOrnellas '13 earned the Honorable Mention distinction, joining rising senior Lindsey Martin '11 and Megan Hollar '06 as Wildcats to have earned the honor. Martin was recognized after the 2008-09 season, and Hollar after the 2005-06 season.
“Anna and Jean are deserving recipients of such a lofty individual honor,” Young said. “Both embody so much of the robust manifestation of excellence that I hope our program continues aspiring to. I am proud of them, and I am happy for them.”
