Men's Track & Field Strong at Liberty Collegiate Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Taylor Martin cracked Davidson's top-ten performers list in the 400-meter hurdles in track and field action at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational Saturday.
Martin, a sophomore, clocked a personal-best 56.87 in the event to place fifth.
Classmate Ian Tupper took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:20.58, while freshman Will Stratford placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.53.
JinHan Song placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 50.67, while senior Mordecai Scott led the Wildcats in the short sprints, placing ninth in the 100-meter dash in 11.18 and 11th in the 200-meter dash in 22.36.
The 'Cats also picked up a pair of top-three finishes in the relays. The 4x100-meter team of Lee Dorsey, Song, Bryce Jones and Scott took third in 43.19, while the 4x400m team of James Tolleson, Martin, Melaku Teka and Song took second in 3:24.03.
Assistant coach Allen Simms competed in the long jump as an unattached competitor, and won the event with a leap of 25 feet, 6 inches (7.77m).
Davidson will compete locally next week at Winthrop's Carolina's Cup Friday in Rock Hill, S.C. and the Johnson C. Smith University Invitational Saturday in Charlotte.
