Wildcats Host NC Central in Double-Header Saturday, Travel to Durham Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Fresh off a 4-2 win over the Duke Blue Devils Tuesday, the Davidson Wildcats will continue their out-of-conference play as they host the NC Central Eagles for a double-header Saturday at 1 p.m. and return a 2 p.m. game Sunday.
Davidson (14-19) and NC Central (1-32) will play a double-header at Wilson Field beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday before the Wildcats return for a 2 p.m. game Sunday at Durham Athletic Park.
The Wildcats are coming off a 4-2 win over Duke Tuesday night. Brian Russell allowed just one run on four hits in a career-high six innings, Michael Zeblo drove in three runs, and the Davidson Wildcats turned a season-high four double plays n non-conference action Tuesday at the USA Baseball Complex.
The Eagles are coming off an 11-0 loss to NC State Tuesday, after picking up their first win of the season against Savannah State, a 7-6 win on April 10 in the first game of a three-game series last weekend.
Probable Starters
Sophomore RHP Ryan Overcash (4-0, 3.64) will start the opening game of Saturday's double-header in Davidson, against NCCU's senior LHP Joseph Cobb (0-5, 15.09).
Sophomore LHP Chris Lamb (1-5, 9.11) will work the nightcap against junior RHP Drew Robinson (0-6, 9.19).
Senior LHP Thomas Middour (1-2, 5.69) will make Sunday's start in Durham, with freshman RHP Glenn Frye (1-7, 14.20) taking the mound for the Eagles.
About the Series
Davidson and NC Central have met just two previous times, with the Wildcats winning both. Davidson beat the Eagles, 12-2, in the team's first meeting on Feb. 24 last season, and earlier this season, 16-2, in Durham Feb. 23.

The Wildcats snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over Duke at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. Tuesday. Davidson ranks ninth in batting average in the SoCon with a .281 clip and are fourth in the league with a 5.49 team ERA.
Junior first baseman Danny Weiss ranks sixth in the SoCon with a .376 batting average, 15th with a .624 slugging percentage and fourth with a .479 on-base percentage and is also 14th with 32 RBI. Sophomore center fielder Drew Gadaire ranks among league leaders in runs (6th, 38), hits (8th, 48), triples (2nd, 3), plate appearances (8th, 160) and at-bats (4th, 142), and freshman third baseman Andrew Barna ranks in doubles (9th, 11), hits (11th, 46), RBI (7th, 36) and at-bats (11th, 136).
As a team, the Wildcats lead the SoCon with 64 hit batsmen, and senior catcher Tommy Piacenza has been hit nine times, ranking seventh in the league. Junior designated hitter Will General ranks fifth with five sac bunts, while junior outfielder Sam Payne is fifth with 167 plate appearances, 13th with 135 at-bats and ninth with 11 stolen bases.
Overcash ranks fourth in the league with a 3.64 ERA and junior reliever Mike Frongello is 10th a 3.86 ERA. The pair are also ranked in opposing batting average, with Frongello ranked sixth (.259) and Overcash, 11th (.271). With a team-leading 23 career appearances, Frongello also leads the league and is ranked 14th in innings with 44.1. Middour is seventh with 49.0 innings pitched and also ranks sixth with 47 strikeouts.
About the Eagles
NC Central is just 1-32, their lone win coming in a three-game series with Savannah State, a 7-6 win on April 10. The Eagles were swept in their opening tournament, dropping games to Iona, Delaware State and Navy before Davidson defeated them 16-2 in Durham. NCCU dropped four games to Georgia State, a pair to Norfolk State and Presbyterian and three games each to NC A&T, Coppin State and East Carolina. NC State defeated the Eagles, 24-6, in Durham, before their most recent defeat, an 11-0 shutout by the Wolfpack in Raleigh Tuesday. The Eagles have also dropped single games to UNC Asheville, Virginia Tech, Duke, Virginia State and Longwood.
As a team, the Eagles are batting .242, while opponents are hitting .405 against them, while the pitching sports a team 14.24 ERA to a 3.12 ERA for their opponents. Akeem Hood is batting .295 (36-for-122) to lead the Eagles with three doubles, a triple and seven RBI, while Derrell Parker has a team-best three home runs and 11 RBI. Glenn Frye (1-7, 14.20 ERA) has made a team-high 12 appearances and recorded the Eagles' only win.

James Cerbie and Barna each recorded three hits and drove in three runs to pace the Davidson Wildcats to a 16-2 win over N.C. Central at Durham Athletic Park Tuesday night.
As a team, Davidson (2-2) collected 17 hits, including three by Gadaire and General and a pair by Payne. Russell (1-0) earned the win after allowing just one run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work in a scheduled limited start.
Davidson scored two runs in the opening frame and toook a 6-0 lead with a four-spot in the third, as Piacenza (SF), General (RBI-double) and Barna (two-RBI double) drove in runs. The Wildcats added run four more on five hits in the fifth, a run in the sixth on General's leadoff homer, two in each the seventh -on a bases-loaded walk and hit by pitch- and eighth -on Cerbie's two-run shot, and a final run in the ninth.
The Wildcat pitchers limited N.C. Central (0-4) to just four hits, led by right fielder Edwar Pegues with a pair. Jaspe Jones (0-1) took the loss for the Eagles, after allowing six runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. The Eagles got a run in the third after Russell walked one and hit two to load the bases before Akeem Hood's RBI single. Russell walked the bases loaded once more, but Thomas Middour got a bases-loaded strikeout to end the inning.
Middour, Ian Horkley, Mac Read, Michael Loeb and Frongello combined to allow just one run on two hits in 6 1/3 innings of relief. The Blue Devils got a run across in the bottom of the ninth as Kennedy dealt a leadoff walk to Blake Murray and gave up a one-out single to Edwar Pegues, who advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored as Anthony Wilson reached safely on a fielder's choice.
