STANFORD, Calif. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team closed out their two-game West Coast trip to California with a 19-7 setback at Stanford on Thursday afternoon.
The Cardinal scored the game's first eight goals and the 'Cats were never able to recover, despite being outscored just 11-7 the remained of the game.
Senior Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) again paced the offense with three goals to push her season total to 13. Also etching their names in the scorer's book was Alanna Parker (2 goals) (Spring Valley, Calif.), Anna Smith (1 goal/1 assist) (Newburyport, Mass.) and Jenna Mugele (1 goal) (Baltimore, Md.).
Defensively, freshman Abigail Doelger (West Hartford, Conn.) forced two turnovers and grabbed two groundballs. Parker had three groundballs, while four other 'Cats had two each to tie Doelger.
Goalkeeper Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) recorded four groundballs and had seven saves.
Twelve different Stanford players netted a goal, led Dana Lindsay's four scores. She was joined with multiple goals on the afternoon by Amanda Schwab, Anna Boeri, Catherine Swanson and Sarah Flynn, who all scored two goals apiece.
Stanford built an 8-0 lead just 9:35 into the half. The Cardinal did a good job on draw controls, refusing Davidson to have more than a couple of possessions early on.
Davidson though, got on the board with 18 minutes remaining when Cook connected on one of two free-position shots she had in the game. Parker followed three minutes later with a strike to the back of the net off an assist from Erin Keitel (Carlsbad, Calif.). It was Keitel's third assist on the year.
Cook closed out the scoring for the Wildcats in the half with two more goals, but the deficit was 15-4 at halftime.
Davidson did a great job defensively in the second half, limiting Stanford to just four goals and outshot the Cardinal, 11-10.
Parker, Smith and Mugele scored three of the final four goals in the game for the final of 19-7. Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Smith each tallied an assist on two of the goals.
The Wildcats return home on Sunday, Mar. 7, for a 1 p.m. matchup with Saint Francis (Pa.) at Richardson Stadium.
