DAVIDSON, N.C. — Elon's Ali Ford led four Phoenix players in double figures with a game-high 22 points as the Davidson Wildcats saw their three-game win streak come to an end with a 77-63 setback on Monday evening at Belk Arena in women's Southern Conference basketball action.

The Wildcats, winners of four of their past five games coming in, fell to 12-11 overall and 10-5 in league play. Elon ran its record to 10-15 overall and 5-11 in the SoCon as they also stopped the 'Cats three-game win streak in the all-time series.

Ford finished 6-of-13 from the field, with four of the shots coming from behind the arc, and drained all six of her free throws. Last time vs. Davidson, the freshman dropped in a game-best 27 points.

Tiffany Davis followed with 13 points, five of them at the charity stripe in the final 1:35 when she helped seal the win for Elon. The Phoenix finished the game 21-for-25 overall from the 15-foot line.

Rounding out the quartet of scorers was Urysla Cotton and Tiara Gause with 12 points apiece.

For Davidson, Monica Laune (Ashland, Neb.) and Sarah Davis (St. Clair, Mich.) each chipped in 13 points, while freshman Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) was just one point away from another double-double, finishing with nine points and a game-high 10 boards. It was her 11th rebounding game this year in double digits.

Elon led from the start, building leads of 13-5 and 28-20 in the first half. Laune did her best to keep the Wildcats close with 11 first-half points as she nailed her first three shots from downtown. She tied the score at 20-all on a pair of free throws at the 9:24 mark, but the Phoenix rattled off an 8-0 run, and then closed out the half on a 10-2 run for a 38-26 advantage at the intermission.

Led by its five starters, Elon shot 53.6 percent in the first half, with the five starters combining for all but five of the 38 first-half points and shooting 13-of-18 from the field. The Phoenix also got 20 of their 38 points in the paint during the half.

The second half was much the same as Davidson found itself down by 20 (46-26) through the first two minutes of the new half after Elon scored the first eight points. The 'Cats would trail by as many as 22 points in the half after a Cotton three-pointer that banked in at the 7:36 mark.

Davidson tried to make one last charge, cutting the deficit down to 10 points at 69-59 with 1:39 left behind a 14-2 run over a six- minute stretch. Davis started the rally with a three-point play and fellow classmate Aleksandravicius finished it with a couple free throws.

Forced to foul, Davidson saw Elon calmly sink 8-of-10 from the charity stripe the rest of the way to seal up the 77-63 win.

Coming off a season-best shooting performance (58.2) on Saturday at UNC Greensboro, the Wildcats finished at just 36.7 percent for the game, and were only 4-of-16 from behind the arc.

The Wildcats did finish with a 36-28 edge on points in the paint, tallied 20 second-chance points and had 28 points off the bench.

Davidson will now take to the road one last time this season when it heads to Samford and Chattanooga this weekend, Feb. 13-15.
