DAVIDSON, N.C. — Erin Rawlick tallied six goals and three assists, and Navy outscored Davidson 7-1 in the second half to earn a 14-7 women's lacrosse victory over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
Haley Cook scored two goals to lead Davidson (1-2), and Alanna Parker posted a goal and two assists to push her team-best points total to 10 on the season. Jen Crawford scored two goals to match Cook for team-high honors.
The Wildcats trailed 7-6 at the break and after the teams traded goals to open the second half, Navy (5-0) netted five goals in 7:25 to open a 13-7 cushion. Caitlin Mandrin Hill got an unassisted goal, her third of the game, with 5:29 left for the final margin.
Mandrin Hill added an assist, while Kierstin King recorded two goals and an assist for Navy in the run.
Overall, seven Mids scored with Rawlick and Mandrin Hill putting in multiple goals.
Davidson raced out to 3-0 lead with goals coming from Cook, Crawford and Keena Classen, her fifth of the season, through the first nine minutes of action in the first half.
Navy followed with a pair of goals from King and Mary Ruttum at the 20:20 and 17 minute marks to cut the deficit to one.
Cook netted her second goal of the half off a pass from Erin Keitel to make it 4-2 with a little less than 15 minutes to play in the half, but a very aggressive Navy squad struck for three straight, including back-to-back goals by Rawlick and Claire Olechowski which were within eight seconds of each other, to take a 5-4 lead.
There were a flurry of goals in the last two minutes with each team netting two apiece. Erin McGuire teamed up with Emily Rahill to knot things up at 5-all with 1:49 left, but the Mids' Rawlick push it out to a one-goal lead again with her second goal of the half and 1:17 on the clock.
The 'Cats struck again quickly off the draw as Crawford raced in and fired off a shot into the net to tie it one more time at 6-apiece.
Navy closed out the scoring with a Rawlick goal and just 46 ticks on the clock, and then used that momentum in the start of the second half on their way to taking the win.
Goalkeeper Michelle Pav recorded a season-high tying nine saves, while Navy's Elaina Ponchione was credited with three.
Navy had a big edge in shot column, holding a 36-14 advantage, and also picked up five more groundballs to Davidson's 14. Defensively, the Wildcats' Taylor Ketcham and Pav had three groundballs each, while McGuire and Lauren Vanhusen forced two turnovers apiece.
The Wildcats head to California next week where they will play Cal-Berkley, Mar. 2, and then Stanford, Mar. 4. Game times are set for 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Davidson and Stanford played each other last year, with the Cardinal taking a 19-4 decision.
