HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Davidson freshman John Skeadas sits in a three-way tie for first place after a rain-shortened first day of the fifth-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Golf Tournament hosted by Francis Marion. As a team, the Wildcats are third behind Francis Marion and Wake Forest.
Monday's schedule was cut from two rounds to one due to heavy rain and lightning. The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course.
Skeadas shot a first-round two-under-par 70 to finish the day in a three-way tie with Ciaran McKenna (Francis Marion) and Ben Westley (De Paul). Davidson (296, +8) is seven strokes behind Francis Marion, who lead the tournament with a one-over 289. Three-time Wake Forest (293, +5) sits in second. The 'Cats lead four Southern Conference foes: Samford (tie fourth, 297 +9), Wofford (tie fourth, 297, +9), Elon (tie 14th, 305 +17) and Western Carolina (tie 14th, 305, +17).
Sophomore Jackson Taylor also placed in the top 10 and is locked in a seven-way tie for eighth at an even 72. Junior Christopher Rollins shot a two-over 74, while junior Bobby Urso shot an eight-over 80.
The final round will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
