Wildcat Men Still First, Women Second After Day Two of CCSA Championships

Day Two Results
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Davidson Wildcat men remain in the lead as the Wildcat women trail Florida Gulf Coast, after two full days of competition at the 2010 CCSA Championships at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
FGCU leads Davidson 534.5-419 entering the final day of competition, with Gardner-Webb third with 363.5 points at the conclusion of day two. The Wildcat men extended their lead to 648-568 over the College of Charleston, while the Bulldog men are also third with 493 points.
On the second day of competition, the Wildcats won eight events, including sweeps of the 100 fly and 200 free, and set five new school records, including two CCSA records and two NCAA B-cut times.
Junior Lindsey Martin won her second individual title behind another NCAA B-cut, Davidson-best time in the 200 free, while freshman Drew Onken did the same in the 400 IM, also setting a new CCSA record. Sophomore Curtis Chaney won the 200 freestyle to earn the sweep for the Wildcats, while junior Emily Castle and sophomore Joe Burquist swept the 100 fly. Sophomore Geoffrey Peitz won the final individual title for the Wildcats in the 100 back, and sophomore Ben Lane completed his second straight sweep of the diving events by winning the 1-meter event. The Wildcat men also won the 800 freestyle relay.
In addition to Burquist, Martin and Onken's school-records, the Wildcats set new Davidson standards in both 200 medley relays. Freshman Kelsi Hobbs, senior Caroline Curtiss, Castle and Martin kicked off the evening session with a new school-record with a runner-up time of 1:44.16 in the relay, followed by the the Wildcat men who set a new CCSA and school record in the event. Peitz, Onken, Burquist and junior Bryan Droll finished with a winning time of 1:30.91.
Onken won his first individual title, swimming a school and CCSA-record, NCAA B-cut time of 3:51.93 in the 400 IM. Junior Ben Lucas finished right behind him with a time of 4:07.36, and sophomore Brian Seo placed fifth with a time of 4:09.65. Freshmen Chris Leonard (4:30.43) and Marcus Carson (4:36.11) competed in the consolation final. Junior Anna Stringfield finished fourth in the event for the women with a time of 4:27.73, followed immediately by sophomore Lauren Kamperman (4:28.00). Freshman Lillie Seifart won the consolation final with a time of 4:28.58.
Castle won the 100 fly for a second straight year with a time of 54.87, and Burquist made it a sweep with a winning, school-record time of 49.43, after a runner-up finish in the prelims. Senior Miller Williams finished third in the championship final with a time of 50.45, and Carman was eighth with a time of 51.61. DeOrnellas finished 10th for the women with a time of 58.23 in the consolation final.
Martin won her second individual title of the meet, swimming her second NCAA B-cut time of 1:49.02, also a school record, in the 200 freestyle. Chaney gave the Wildcats their second sweep of the evening, winning the event with a time of 1:39.90. Junior Bryan Droll finished seventh with a time of 1:44.35, and classmate Delgehausen finished sixth on the women's side with a time of 1:53.10. Freshman Wills Cooper won the consolation final with a time of 1:43.57.
Sophomore David Kerman finished sixth in the 100 breast with a time of 58.48, and Curtiss competed in the consolation final of the event, finishing with a 13th-place time of 1:06.86.
Peitz won the Wildcats' sixth individual title, swimming a CCSA-best time of 50.09, just .03 off his school-record time yesterday in the 400 medley relay. Hobbs, who also set a school record with her leadoff leg in the medley relay yesterday, finished eighth in the 100 back with a time of 58.46. Brastow and Burquist finished fourth and fifth in the championship final with times of 52.57 and 52.92, respectively, and freshman Ben Wilde was 13th in the consolation final (55.59).
Lane completed his sweep of the diving events, winning the 1-meter event for a second straight season with a score of 293.76. Freshman Nick Taylor finished fifth with a score of 129.42, and Tim Keating (99.78) also competed.
Onken, Brastow, Carman and Chaney won the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:47.54, and Stringfield, Sheetz, DeOrenallas and Delgehausen were second and just a tenth of a second off the school record.
Competition concludes tomorrow with 10 a.m. prelims and 6 p.m. finals in the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's 3-meter diving and 400 freestyle relay.
