DAVIDSON, N.C. —After leading Davidson to its third straight win over the weekend with a career-best game, sophomore forward Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) registered her first player of the week honor as she was selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played November 30 through December 6.
It's the first time a Wildcat has won the award since Mercedes Robinson took it home twice during the 2008-09 season.
The 6-foot-4 forward had a monster game on Saturday with a career-best 31 points in guiding the 'Cats to a 71-62 triumph over Radford as Davidson improved to 4-3.
Aleksandravicius tied her career-best in field goals, going 11-for-16, and swished home nine free throws, which also tied her personal-best. She added nine boards and blocked six shots, giving the sophomore 31 blocks on the year, with 27 of those coming in the last five games.
The sophomore scored 21 of her points in the second half, including seven during a decisive 12-1 run a little over halfway through the period that pushed the Wildcats lead from two out to 13 (58-45), and they never looked back in scoring their fourth straight win at home.
Aleksandravicius bumped her season averages to team bests of 18.7 points per game and 8.4 rebounds a contest. Both numbers rank in the top-five in the league and her 4.4 blocks per game are tops in the SoCon. Just three games ago, the forward swatted away seven shots vs. North Texas to set a Wildcat single-game record. She needs just four more blocks to move into sixth-place all-time as she currently has 80 blocks for her career.
As of Dec. 5, Aleksandravicius ranks third in the nation in blocks per game.
In addition, She is shooting 52.6 percent from the field on the year, good for 8th in the conference and second-best on the team.
Aleksandravicius has been on a tear during the last three games. She has dropped in games of 23, 20 and 31 points for a 24.7 average, while shooting 63.8 percent from the floor and hauling in an even eight boards a game.
Davidson has a 16-day break for exams and then will prepare for its first SoCon game of the season when its travels to Elon, Dec. 20. Gametime is set for 6 p.m.
