DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson wrestling had two individual champions at the Davidson Open Saturday in the Knobloch Tennis Center as senior Alex Radsky defended his title at 133 pounds and freshman 174-pounder Scott Patrick scored his first tournament win as a Wildcat.
The host 'Cats placed four in the finals as seniors Vitaly Radsky (141 pounds) and Charlie Wolff (285 pounds) remained undefeated until their final matches.
Alex Radsky cruised to a 6-2 decision over Chris Johnson for the win in the 133-pound bracket, but Patrick had to battle back from an early deficit in the 174-pound championship. He scored a last second takedown to send the match to overtime, where his takedown of Carter Downs gave him a 10-8 win.
Radsky opened with a 10-3 decision over Alex Hamm of Gardner-Webb and then defeated Kenny Porter, via a technical fall, 17-2. He reached the finals with a 6-4 decision over UNCG's Angel Garcia, who was competing unattached.
Patrick led three Davidson wrestlers competing at 174 pounds. Patrick reached the semis by pinning Belmont-Abbey's Kwame Seymour in just 34 seconds, and then earned a 5-4 decision over TJ Cayruth to advance to the finals.
Vitaly Radsky rattled off three straight pins over Alejandro Soto-Perez, Josh Brophy (Belmont-Abbey), and Joe Figeroua (UNC Pembroke), respectively, before shutting out Lucas Dutch (Gardner-Webb), 6-0 to reach the finals. He was pinned though in the final period in what had been an even match with Richie Spicel (Gardner-Webb).
After a first round bye, Wolff reached the semis at 285 pounds with a 3-2 decision over James Payne, competing unattached from UNCG, and advanced to the finals with a 4-1 decision over Justin Hoover (St. Andrews). An overtime takedown by Corey Anderson was the difference though in the finals, as Anderson defeated Wolff, 4-2.
Sophomore Ike Crews took a 9-0 major decision over Anderson's Taylor Dorsett in the opening round before losing to Blake Salyer, 3-1, but scored a technical fall and a decision to reach the third-place bout, where he was defeated UNC Pembroke's John Sturrock, 4-3.
Also at 174, junior Jorge Estrada reached the consolation semifinals and finished the day 2-2, earning a pin and a major decision. Sophomore Matt Zarth went 3-2 at 125 pounds with a fall and technical fall.
The open tournament was the last of the season for the Wildcats. Davidson will open their dual and conference slate in their next outing Saturday, Dec. 18 at The Citadel.
