DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson women's basketball head coach Michele Savage and Davidson's associate athletic director for marketing Martin McCann announced today that the entire slate of home games, a select number of road games and all post-season games will be broadcast live on www.davidsonwildcats.com.
For the second consecutive season, Davidson student Ray Francis teams up with long-time announcer Derek Smith to call the action on-line.
Francis is a senior history major from Belmont, North Carolina. He has previously provided radio commentary for women's soccer, women's basketball, and baseball, in addition to serving as a game management assistant for several other Wildcat teams. He would like to pursue a career in athletics upon graduation.
Smith, who first came to Davidson as an assistant sports information director in 1999, has been the voice of the Davidson women's program since the 2003-04 season. He serves as the public address announcer for the football teams at Davidson College and Ardrey Kell High School. He has also broadcast soccer for Davidson College and the Southern Conference and served as a color analyst for the SoCon women's basketball tournament. In addition to his broadcasting duties, he covers the Charlotte Bobcats for NBA.com. Smith works full-time for Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust in Charlotte.
In addition to all the homes games, Davidson will broadcast a total of four road games. The Wildcats open the season in Arkansas with games at Arkansas-Little Rock and the University of Arkansas and the Davidson Radio Network will be there to cover the action. In addition to the season-opening weekend, games at Winthrop (Nov. 22) and Wofford (Jan. 22) are also on the broadcast schedule.
Each broadcast will consist of a pre-game show 15 minutes before the tipoff and a post-game show featuring coach Savage and the Davidson Radio Network Player of the Game.
