'Cats Tip Off Home WBB Schedule vs. W&M on Friday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team opens its 2010-11 home schedule this Friday evening when it plays host to William & Mary in John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
The Wildcats (0-2) begin their 19th year in John M. Belk Arena by opening up against the visiting William & Mary Tribe (0-1) on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is 4-0 in favor of W&M. The two teams first met on Jan. 11, 1994.
In last year's meeting, the Tribe came back from a 23-point deficit in taking an 74-63 decision. William & Mary's only trip to Davidson was in 1994 when it took a 69-51 decision.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson opened the season on the road, dropping a pair of tough contests at Ark.-Little Rock (51-76) and Arkansas (55-68) last weekend. UALR was recieving votes in the latest top-25 polls.
•On Sunday vs. Arkansas, Kristen Johnsen and Sophia Aleksandravicius hit the double-digit mark in points with 12 and 18 points, respectively, to pace the Wildcats.
•It was Johnsen's second straight game in double figures, while Aleksandravicius has hit the double-digit mark in four of her the last five games dating back to the end of last year.
•Freshman #Laura Murray3 dished out a team-best five assists and leads the team with six, while tying Aleksandravicius for top honors in rebounds with 12.
•It was the first time Davidson had faced both UALR and Arkansas in program history.
•In her return trip back to her home state, senior Ashley Lax (from Little Rock) finished with 13 points and three boards, while hitting 3-of-5 three-pointers to move into fourth-place all-time in the Wildcat record books in made threes (141).
•Lax needs just 219 more points to become the 14th Wildcat to clip 1,000 for a career.
•Davidson shot 48.8 percent at Arkansas, it's best percentage since hitting 50 percent vs. College of Charleston on Feb. 20 of last season.
•Davidson is 13-16 in its 31-year history in home-openers, with two of the years records being incomplete. The 'Cats are 3-2 the last five years in their home openers.
•Davidson finished 8-4 last year at home, its ninth straight winning season at Belk Arena.
•Both Aleksandravicius and Lax were named to the coaches' preseason All-SoCon team.
•The Wildcats were picked to finish 6th in the SoCon in both the media and coaches polls.
•Davidson returns eight letterwinners, two are starters, from last year's 14-15 team.
•This is Michele Savage's first head coaching gig after being an assist for the last 9 years at Tulane.
•In last year's meeting vs. W&M, Lax and Aleksandravicius combined for 24 points.
•The 'Cats opened up a 24-5 lead last year on the Tribe in the first period, but saw their lead eventually evaporate in the second half in falling by 11 points.
Scouting the Tribe
•William & Mary opened its 2010-11 season with a 65-38 setback at Wisconsin last Sunday.
•The Tribe put two players in double figures in Taysha Paye (12) and Janine Aldridge (10).
•They were held to 26.9 percent shooting on Sunday. They shot 38.2 percent as a team last year.
•W&M returns 10 of its 13 letterwinners from last year's 12-18 team. Four of those are starters.
•Pye led the team with a 16.4 points per game average a season ago.
•Emily Correal returns as the top rebounder from last year's squad, hauling in close to six boards a game. She had 11 rebounds vs. Davidson last year and the Tribe picked up 20 of their 46 total rebounds on offense in last year's meeting.
•In the Tribe's lone exhibition game this year, they scored a 77-56 win over Davis & Elkins.
•A member of the Colonial Athletic Association, W&M was picked seventh in the coaches poll.
•Pye was a preseason first-team all-conference pick after earning second-team All-CAA honors a season ago.
•Last year vs. Davidson, Janine Aldridge led the Tribe with 18 points.
•In all, four players reached double figures vs. the Wildcats, with Pye and DeHenzel each chipping in 16 points apiece.
•Head coach Debbie Taylor is in her 12th season at William &?Mary, owning a 125-198 career mark.
