DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team will hold its third annual Dig Pink event when they host the Furman Paladins Saturday night in a 7 p.m. South Division SoCon matchup at Belk Arena and closes its home weekend with a 2 p.m. match against the Wofford Terriers Sunday.
Dig Pink benefits the Side-Out Foundation to promote breast cancer awareness. The Wildcats have led the Southern Conference in fundraising efforts for the past two seasons, and Davidson will try to match these efforts by selling fundraising T-shirts for $15, available for purchase in the Alvarez Student Union Wednesday and Thursday and at the Wildcats' 1 p.m. football game against Dayton. Remaining T-shirts will also be available for purchase at Saturday's match, and Davidson students, faculty and staff may use their CatCards to do so.
There will also be a silent auction held prior to the match on Saturday, featuring items from local businesses including the Davidson Community Players, 'Cats on Main, Summit Coffee, the Soda Shop and Restaurant X, among others, and autographed Davidson memorabilia, including a signed Stephen Curry jersey. Bidding will open an hour before the match and end at the conclusion of the second set.
Donations can also be mailed directly to the attention of Gretchen Krumdieck in the Davidson volleyball office: Box 7158, Davidson, N.C. 28036. Checks should be made out to the Side-Out Foundation. The Wildcats raised a SoCon-best $4,210 last season, and also led the league in fundraising efforts with $5,400 in 2008.
Dig Pink is the Side-Out Foundation's trademark name for its fundraising events. Over 1,000 teams at the college and high school level are hosting events for the organization this season with the goal of raising $1.5 million. All proceeds benefit Side-Out, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.
