
Davidson Golf Concludes Fall Season at River Run

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Wofford claimed the team crown with a five-over par 869 (296+280+293), led by individual medalist Brent Whitehead's four-under par 212 at the men's golf Davidson College Invitational Tuesday at River Run Country Club. Davidson placed seventh at 891 (302+291+298).
Southern Conference rivals Western Carolina (882=293+296+293) and College of Charleston (883=302+286+295) took second and third, respectively, while Cincinnati and Guilford tied for fourth at 886.
USC Upstate (889) edged Davidson by two strokes for sixth place. Radford (893), Gardner-Webb (895), and Presbyterian (897) completed the Top 10. High Point (904) placed 11th, while Southern Conference foes Elon (913) and Appalachian State (926) completed the 13-team field.
Senior Christopher Rollins (White Plains, N.Y.) led Davidson individually in a tie for 15th at 221 (70+77+74), five-over par.
Senior Ryan Crum (South Salem, N.Y.) and freshmen Richard Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sam Echikson (Brussels, Belgium) all finish tied for 27th place at 224, eight-over par. Fountain and Echikson both carded two-over par 74's in the final round.
Senior Bobby Urso (Beverly Hills, Mich.) also posted a final-round 74 to finish at 225 in a tie for 33rd place in the field of 75 golfers.
Rollins and John Skeadas (Savannah, Ga.) had Davidson's lowest single-round scores of the tournament in the first and second rounds, respectively, at 70, two-under par.
The Invitational took place at the River Run Country Club, a 7,208-yard, par-72 championship course located in Davidson, N.C. The course was recognized by Golf Reporter as one of the finest tracks in the Southeast, and went through a complete renovation in 2007, including a rebuilding of all of the greens, and a laser-leveling of the tee boxes. It is one of the home courses for the Davidson golf program, giving the 'Cats one of the top facilities in the area.
The tournament concluded the 2010 fall season for Davidson. The Wildcats will resume play February 21-22, 2011 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
