Millard Named SoCon Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson junior forward Mark Millard and College of Charleston senior defender Sean Flatley and have been chosen as the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Co-Players of the Week for October 4-10 after strong performances in SoCon matches.
Millard (Oak Ridge, N.C.) produced a two-goal effort against Wofford last week, scoring the Wildcats' first and third goals in a 3-0 triumph in Spartanburg. The match, which was televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel, was scoreless until Millard's 48th minute goal broke the deadlock. Holding a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute, the junior chipped a ball above the outstretched arms of the keeper from 18 yards out to seal the win.
“We are very proud that Mark has been recognized for his performance vs. Wofford,” said head coach Matt Spear. “It was a critical victory for our team – partially because we needed a conference win and also because the game was televised.
“Mark's fine form and two goals were the catalyst. His first one, which proved to be the game-winner, ignited our second half momentum. His second goal was a clever, deft shot that took as much vision and composure as it did skill.”
The award is Millard's first SoCon honor. He is now tied for the team lead and for second in the conference in scoring with senior midfielder Alex Caskey with five goals and two assists for 12 points.
“Confidence is a crucial attribute for strikers, and this performance and award can further Mark's future contributions,” said Spear.
Flatley scored twice in the Cougars' 4-1 win against Wofford on Tuesday, including his second game-winner of the season. The senior was also instrumental in CofC's key 1-0 win at Elon on Saturday night, which was the Cougars' eighth-straight win overall and third in a row in league play.
The Wildcats will look for another conference win tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Furman.
