Freshmen Lead Davidson After Two Rounds at Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate

POOLER, Ga. – Freshman Richard Fountain leads the Davidson men's golf team in ninth place individually at 140, four-under par, after two rounds of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia Southern Monday at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. As a team the Wildcats are seventh at 582 (292+290).
Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) is four strokes behind Wofford's Mark Joye, who leads the field after firing a pair of 68's on the par-72, 7016-yard Greg Norman designed course.
Classmate Ben Echikson (Brussels, Belgium) finished one stroke under par after the first round, but went two over in the second to finish the day at 145, tied for 21st place.
Senior Bobby Urso (Beverly Hills, Mich.) finished the day at 150 (75+75) and was followed by sophomore John Skeadas (Savannah, Ga.) at 152 (76+76). Senior Ryan Crum (South Salem, N.Y.) struggled in the first round but rallied with a one-under 71 in the second round to finish conclude the day at 153.
Florida Gulf Coast leads the 14-team field at 556 (281+275) with four players in the Top 10 individually. Southern Conference foe Wofford trails in second place with 571 (287+281).
The 'Cats hold a two-stroke lead over Elon (584=295+289). Georgia Southern is in 13th place at 591 (297+294).
Competition resumes with the third-and-final round Tuesday morning.
