Alex Caskey Garners National, Conference Honors

OAKLAND, Calif./SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior midfielder Alex Caskey received both national and conference recognition on Tuesday for his five-point performance against then-No. 25 South Carolina, as he was named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week and named the Southern Conference Player of the Week.
Caskey is currently tied for 23rd nationally in scoring with 1.71 points per game and also ranks 24th nationally with 0.71 goals per game. He is also tied for the league lead with five goals and leads the conference with 31 shots.
"These are well-deserved honors for Alex, who was pivotal in two big wins last week," said head coach Matt Spear. "Special players need to make special plays, and Alex is following this call to action very well."
Against South Carolina, Caskey factored in on Davidson's first three goals in the 4-1 upset win. He assisted on the Wildcats' first goal, extended the Davidson lead on a penalty kick near the close of the half and then headed in a corner kick early in the second half.
Also in the past week, Caskey scored the first of three unanswered, second-half goals against in a 3-2 comeback win at High Point.
The Dunwoody, Ga. native was an All-Southern Conference player in 2008 with 10 points (3 goals, 2 assists) and previously totaled 19 points in 38 games, but has already totaled 12 points on five goals and two assists in 2009.
Davidson will look to extend its four-match winning streak as Southern Conference play begins against the College of Charleston on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
