
No. 3 Wake Forest Prevails Over Wildcats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Taking on another strong challenge in third-ranked Wake Forest, the Davidson field hockey team was defeated 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kentner Stadium.
The Wildcats fell to 2-6, while Wake Forest improved to 6-1. Three of the 'Cats losses this season have been to nationally ranked teams.
The Demon Deacons goals' came from six different players. Three of the goals, including the first two, came off penalty corners. Wake Forest had an 8-2 penalty corner advantage for the game.
Alex Wolfgang-Price scored first for Wake Forest, 14:04 into the contest with Cristen Atchison and Lauren Greenwald earning assists. Wake Forest added another goal less than two minutes later when Kaitlin Piosa scored on a penalty corner from Greenwald and Faith Adams. Kerry Ergen (from Liza Casella) and Melissa Martin both added goals before the end of the first half.
Davidson challenged in the second-half, as Jennie Mostellar, Christine Rua and Gray Robinson placed three of four shots on net, while holding Wake Forest to just five shots. Wake Forest was able to add two late goals though as Adams, and then Casella off a penalty corner from Greenwald and Adams, both scored.
Christa Goeke played the first half in net while Sarah Fisher played the second half. They each made one save. Goalkeeper Julia Young went untested in the first half for Wake Forest while Kaitlyn Ruhf made three saves in the second half. Wake Forest outshot Davidson 14-4.
The Wildcats will return home to face New Hampshire at 6 p.m. on Friday at Belk Turf Field.
