New Hampshire Defeats 'Cats Field Hockey

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team struggled to generate offensive opportunities against a tough New Hampshire team, falling 6-0 on Friday night at Belk Turf Field. The Wilcats fell to 2-7, while New Hampshire improved to 5-2.
Senior goalkeeper Christa Goeke made seven saves to move to third all-time at Davidson in the category with a career total of 288.
New Hampshire struck early with three goals in the first 10 minutes. Melyssa Woods scored the first at 2:27, assisted by Hayley Rausch. Meg Shea added an unassisted goal two minutes later before Woods tallied an assist on a goal from Whitney Frates.
Rausch scored at 14:30 (assisted by Kate Collins Smyth) to extend the lead to 4-0. Kyle Lyons scored the final goal of the half at 25:44 off a penalty corner with Kara Connolly and Leah Boody earning assists.
Davidson held UNH to one goal in the second half. Mary Quill scored at 53:29, assisted by Emily Buda.
The Wildcats' will next play their second NorPac contest of the season, traveling to Longwood on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match.
