DAVIDSON, N.C. - Junior midfielder Alex Caskey was named to the preseason All-Southern Conference team, as announced by the league office today.
“We are thrilled and proud that Alex has again been recognized by the Conference and by the other head coaches as a premier player,” said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “It's another well-deserved feather in his cap. Alex is very humble, and he is also very team-focused as one of our team Captains. So I know that it is the team's success and a SoCon Championship that he craves more than individual accolades.”
Caskey, who garnered All-SoCon honors following last season, is the leading returning scorer for the Wildcats. He recorded 10 points on the year, including four assists, which also led the squad and ranked eighth in the conference.
The Dunwoody, Ga. native was one of only five players to start all 19 matches for the 'Cats last year, and was tops on the team with 1,681 minutes of action. He had a pair of three-point matches, and fired 33 shots, 22 of which were on goal.
He beomes the first Davidson player to earn preseason all-conference accolades since Robby Hoak was named to the honorary squad prior to the 2007 season.
Davidson opens up their 2009 campaign on Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. when they take on USC Upstate at Alumni Stadium. The 'Cats will then host the fifth annual Davidson adidas Classic Sept 11 and 13, with matches against Big South foes UNC Asheville and Coastal Carolina.
