DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson head volleyball coach Tim Cowie has announced the addition of Gretchen Krumdieck, as an assistant volleyball coach, to the Wildcat staff.
Krumdieck, who spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo, replaces Amanda Dawson. Prior to her stint at Buffalo, Krumdieck served as the assistant coach at High Point University for two seasons.
“We are very excited to add Gretchen to our staff,” Cowie said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team that will help lead us to the top of the Southern Conference.”
Krumdieck served in many capacities at Buffalo this past season, and her experiences on and off the court involved coordinating team travel and serving as camp director.
Prior to joining the Bulls, Krumdieck helped lead the High Point Panthers to a 24-9 record in 2007, finishing third in the Big South Conference. In 2007, the Panthers set school records for most wins, best winning percentage and most consecutive wins. At High Point, Krumdieck handled daily on-court instruction duties during the season and also assisted in recruiting. During her two seasons, she coached four All-Big South Conference players and one player on the Big South All-Freshman team.
“After watching Gretchen develop as a coach at HPU and Buffalo and seeing her here at Davidson as a camp coach, I knew that she was a perfect fit for our program,” Cowie said.
Krumdieck received her B.A. from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, W.V., where she played volleyball for three seasons. During her playing career at Wheeling Jesuit, Krumdieck earned WVIAC Player of the Year, Conference Tournament MVP and NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region honors during her junior campaign. She was also twice named first team WVIAC All-Conference.
Krumdieck ended her career ranked on the school's career Top 10 lists in several categories including: kills (5th, 1,167), hitting percentage (6th, .248), kills per game (8th, 2.75), block assists (3rd, 309) and block solos (8th, 40). In three seasons, she helped lead the Cardinals to a pair of WVIAC regular season conference titles along with a pair of conference tournament trophies. As a senior, WJU finished the year ranked in the AVCA Top 25 and participated in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.
Krumdieck began her collegiate career at Danville Area Community College, where she played for a season. As a prep player, she starred at St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio, helping guide her squad to two state championships.
Prior to her appointment at High Point, Krumdieck spent a three-year stint as an elementary school teacher at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Rockville, Md. She also spent one season serving as the volleyball coach for the varsity and junior varsity teams at St. John's College High School (Washington, DC).
