
W. Tennis Serves Up 7-0 Shutout vs. App. State in SoCon Match

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team returned to the win column when they earned a clean sweep in all six singles matches to go along with another three in doubles play as the Wildcats earned a 7-0 win over visiting Appalachian State on Tuesday afternoon during Southern Conference play.
Davidson halted a two-match losing streak to run its overall mark to an even 10-10 and 5-3 in SoCon matches. The win was the Wildcats' fourth shutout victory of the season. ASU fell to 7-13 overall and 2-5 in league play.
The match started out with Davidson taking all three doubles positions by the scores of 8-6, 8-5, and 8-4. Leading the way was the duo of Ali Gores (Charlotte, N.C.) and Molly McDevitt (Albuquerque, N.M.), who registered their sixth win at No. 3 together and remained perfect at 5-0 in SoCon action.
Romina Clemente (Canton, Ohio), a doubles specialist for the 'Cats, earned her fifth doubles win as she teamed up with Alison Rauh (Trier, Germany) at No. 2 for an 8-5 win over Lindsay King and Blakeley Bean.
From there, senior Michele Fanney (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.), who earned the third doubles win at No. 1, paced the Wildcats' to straight set wins at all six singles positions for the 7-0 win.
Fanney rattled off a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Amanda Cash at No. 1, while Berry rolled to her seventh straight singles win, giving up just one game to Caroline Mauch in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Berry also remained perfect in league matches at 8-0 to go along with a 15-5 overall mark.
Also making it a perfect afternoon was Gores, a 7-6, 6-3 winner over Bean at No. 4 and McDevitt, who scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5. Rauh joined the other four 'Cats for a perfect day as well, giving up just one game in a straight set win over King.
Closing out the match with her ninth win of the season was Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) as she picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Olivia Stannard. The sophomore also ran her conference singles record to 5-2, second-best on the team.
The Wildcats return to their home courts on Apr. 10 when they play host to Elon at 2 p.m.
