
Wildcats Turn in Strong Performance at Liberty Collegiate Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Davidson men's track &?field team brought home eight top-ten finishes, including three from senior Will Funderburg, to turn in their best performance of the outdoor season at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational over the weekend.
Funderburg led the Wildcats with a trio of top-tens, topped by a third-place finish in the shot put following a throw of 14.46 meters. The Buford, Ga. native also took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 43.13 meters, and had a 38.46 meter toss in the discuss, good for 10th place.
Sophomore Jake Leonard turned in a pair of strong finishes in the field, coming in ninth in discuss with a distance of 38.81 meters, and taking home 10th in the javelin, recording a mark of 39.07 meters.
The top finisher in the meet for the 'Cats was Ian Tupper, who recorded a runner-up performance in the steeplechase, traversing the 3,000-meter course in 9:49.73 for the first podium finish of his career. Junior Blake Evitt came in right behind Tupper, recording a fourth-place finish with a time of 9:54.47.
Fellow freshman Taylor Martin notched the best finish of his young career with an eighth-place mark in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.39.
Davidson will continue its competition this weekend with some of the team heading to Durham, N.C. to take part in the Duke Invitational. Then on April 11, the Wildcats will compete in the Joe Hilton UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
