Wildcats Drop 4-3 Decision in Cross-County Rivarly Match to Charlotte

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a matchup of cross-county rivals, the Charlotte 49ers took a close 4-3 decision over Davidson on Friday evening in a non-conference match at the Convington Tennis Courts.
Davidson dropped its second match in a row, falling to 9-10 overall. Charlotte improved 10-4 overall.
The match was decided by the doubles play with Charlotte sweeping all three positions.
Picking up singles wins on the afternoon for the Wildcats was junior Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.), Ali Gores (Charlotte, N.C.) and Molly McDevitt (Albuquerque, N.M.).
Berry continued her strong season by tallying her sixth straight win with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Koren Fleming at No. 2. The junior has won nine of her past 10 matches and 13 of 15 overall.
Gores and McDevitt each recorded their eighth wins of the season with wins at No. 4 and 5. Gores cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Gabi Vergara, while McDevitt picked up a super tie breaker win at No. 5. After splitting her first two matches (6-7, 7-5), the first scored a 10-3 win in the super tie breaker.
The Wildcats take the weekend off, before returning to action on Apr. 7 against Appalachian State at 3 p.m. on the Covington Tennis Courts.
