
Harden's Victory in 10,000 Meters Helps Lead Wildcat Men to Fifth Place Finish at SoCons

Harden, competing in his final meet for the Wildcats, ran a personal-best time of 31:27.10 to earn the victory in the 10,000-meters for his first career conference win. The Apex, N.C. native followed that performance up with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:11.52. By finishing in the top-three, he earned All-Conference honors in both events.
Coming in right behind Harden and also garnering All-SoCon accolades in the 5,000-meters was sophomore Charlie Schmitt, who came in third with a mark of 15:12.67. Joining Harden and Schmitt in the top-ten was junior Tom Divinnie and freshman Ryan Hopkins, who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Hopkins added a fourth-place showing in the 10,000-meters to earn All-Freshman honors in both events. He was the top freshman finisher at 10,000, and was in the top-three rookie performers at 5,000.
Classmate Taylor Martin was also named to the All-Freshman team, earning the spot with his eighth-place showing in the 400-meter dash, tripping the tape in 51.48.
In the 1,500-meter run, senior Alex Hoyt ran a 3:57.21 to bring home a fourth-place finish, and was joined in the top-ten by junior Peter Bruton's 3:59.38 and seventh-place finish.
Junior Blake Evitt scored a fifth-place finish in the Steeplechase with his season-best time of 9:38.73, put him in the schools' top-ten all-time performance list in the event.

On the field, senior Will Funderburg added to his list of conference championship accomplishments with a fifth-place showing in the shot put. Funderburg recorded a top distance of 14.68 meters, his best throw of the outdoor season. The Buford, Ga. native also came in eighth in the discuss with a toss of 42.36 meters.
As a team, the 'Cats recorded 63 overall points to bring home fifth place, just 3.5 points behind fourth-place Samford.
Western Carolina won the final event of the day to secure the program's fifth SoCon Outdoor Championship by a half-point over Appalachian State, 254-253.5. The Citadel scored 70 points to bring home third place. Coming in behind Davidson in sixth place was Chattanooga with 40 points, followed by UNC Greensboro (32 pts), Furman (28 pts), and Wofford (10 pts).
