GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Davidson men's golf team used a first-round team score of 309 to tie for 15th place at the 40th Annual Furman Invitational, held at the Furman University Golf Club over the weekend.
Inclement weather forced the delay of the first round on Friday evening. The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes after heavy rains continued to soak the course throughout Saturday and forced the cancellation of the scheduled second round.
Senior Michael Saari was the Wildcats' top finisher in the tournament, shooting a two-round total of 154 to tie for 35th place. Freshman Jackson Taylor finished in a tie for 39th with an 11-over 155, including a 75 in the first round, the lowest Davidson round of the weekend.
Rounding out the Davidson contingent was Bobby Urso, who carded a first-round 77 on his way to a 158 and a tie for 66th place, David Fowler (160/T-84th) and Adam Lewicki (169/111th).
East Carolina (298-297=595) claimed the team title. Furman's Austin Reeves (79-66=145) defeated fellow Paladin Daniel Bowden on the fourth sudden death playoff hole for individual medalist honors. Reeves' 66 established a new course record on the Furman University Golf Course's new layout.
Up next for the 'Cats will be a trip to Huntington, W. Va. on April 3-4 to take part in the Marshall Invitational.
