
Sieracki’s Record Mile Helps ‘Cats to Seventh Place Finish at Indoor SoCon Championships

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Thad Sieracki set a new school record in the mile run, leading the Davidson men's track & field team to a seventh place finish at the 2009 Southern Conference Indoor Championships, held over the weekend at the Clemson University Track and Field Complex.
Sieracki tripped the tape in a time of 4:16.47, which was almost a full second under the previous school-best mark, set in 2006. The senior's performance was good for fourth place in the event.
Classmate Lance Harden earned All-SoCon honors in the 5,000-meter run, finishing third with a time of 15:11.93, setting a new season-best time by over 19 seconds.
The Wildcats swept the top three spots in the first section of finals in the 5,000-meters, with Alex Hoyt (15:44.69) and Ryan Hopkins (15:51.98) joining Harden on top of the section.
In the 3,000-meters, Davidson placed a pair of runners in the top-ten, with Sieracki adding to his successful weekend with a sixth place finish, and Hoyt taking home seventh in a time of 8:43.89.
Senior Will Funderburg led the field finishers for the 'Cats, recording a top distance of 14.83 meters in the shot put, good enough for sixth place.
The 4x400-meter relay team set a new season-best time at the championships, notching a mark of 3:33.40. The team of Taylor Martin, Peter Bruton, Blake Evitt, and Lee Dorsey brought home a seventh place finish with their time.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers swept the men's and women's championships. The title is the 16th overall for the ASU men and the 14th overall for the Mountaineer women. Western Carolina had a pair of runner-up finishes in the team event, with the men and women both coming in second.
The Citadel men rounded out the top three, followed by Samford, Chattanooga and Furman. UNC?Greensboro finished in eight behind Davidson, with Wofford rounding out the field.
