
Wildcats Host The Citadel, Coll. of Charleston in SoCon Action This Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After a pair of non-conference matches and a road trip to Birmingham, Ala., the Davidson Wildcats return to Belk Arena to host The Citadel and the College of Charleston this weekend.
The Wildcats take on the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Saturday and host the Cougars at 2 p.m. the following day.
Davidson Wildcats: The Wildcats return to Belk Arena after their final two non-conference matches and a visit to Samford. Davidson picked up a 3-0 home win over N.C. A&T Sept. 29, before dropping a pair of decisions at Gardner-Webb, 0-3, and Samford, 1-3.
Despite a disappointing win-loss record, the Wildcats have several individual players amongst Southern Conference leaders. Junior Sarabeth Peele leads the league with 276 kills, averaging 3.89 per set, and freshman Ariel Ley averages a league-best 0.42 service aces per set (21 total aces). Setter Hayley Lawson ranks eighth in assists (491, 8.47/s) and aces (18, 0.31/s).
The Citadel Bulldogs: Returning to action for the first time since a 3-1 loss to Furman (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18) Saturday, Oct. 3, The Citadel visits Davidson after a Friday evening match at Georgia Southern. Against Furman, the Bulldogs captured a win in the third set, marking just the second time in Southern Conference action that the Paladins have lost a set this season. Juniors Jessica Maas and Blaine McAllister drove home a team-high 12 kills, while teammate Tatum Jestila added 10 to lead the Bulldogs. Jestila, the team's leading hitter with 173 kills (2.54/set), notched her fifth double-double of the season by reaching 11 digs.
The Bulldogs recorded a pair of 3-1 wins against North Carolina Central and blanked Alabama State, 3-0. In SoCon play, the Citadel is still looking for a win, dropping contests with Appalachian (2-3), Charleston (0-3), Wofford (0-3) and Furman (1-3). Rachael Farrell ranks seventh in the league in service aces with .33/set (22 total) and third on the team with 108 kills. Setter Alyssa Holum has a team-leading 471 assists and ranks second on the team with 137 digs.
Coll. of Charleston Cougars: The College of Charleston is coming off of a pair of 3-0 wins over The Citadel and Wofford and a 3-1 loss to Furman. Junior setter Cole Dawley led the way against the Bulldogs with 25 assists, eight kills and five digs and sophomore middle blocker Elyse Chubb had eight kills and six blocks. Against Wofford, senior middle blocker Jennifer Darty posted a season-high nine blocks while sophomore Sarah Havel and senior outside hitter Emily Sawin each finished with 11 kills. Chubb led three CofC players in double-figure kills against Furman with 11, while Darty had nine blocks.
Sawin leads the team with an average of 2.55 kills and is second in digs with 2.40 per set. Dawley leads the club with 9.35 assists and adds 2.37 digs, 0.60 blocks and 1.23 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Sarah Havel has recorded a team-high 1.27 blocks per set, and Johnson heads up the Cougars defensive effort with a team-best average of 3.87 digs.
