Martin and Onken Nab First Weekly CCSA Honors of 2009-10

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Junior Lindsey Martin and freshman Drew Onken were named CCSA Women's and Men's Swimmer of the Week, as selected by the league office, after combining for five individual titles in the Davidson Wildcats' season-opener against Clemson last Saturday.
Martin opened her 2009-10 season by winning a pair of individual events and contributed to a pair of winning relays. The 2009 CCSA champion and school-record holder in both events, Martin won the 50 free (23.76) and the 100 free (52.99) in her first competition of the season.
She also swam the anchor leg on both of the Wildcats' winning relays. In the 200 medley relay, Martin combined with classmates Anna Stringfield, Alexa Richardson and Emily Castle for a first-place time of 1:51.01. Martin then swam with Castle, freshman Jean DeOrnellas and junior Jessica Delgehausen on the winning 400 freestyle relay, with a time of 3:35.34.
In his first collegiate competition, Onken won both breaststroke events and the 200 IM against Clemson. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Onken was the only swimmer to beat the one minute mark with a time of 59.89. He also won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.59 and finished off his day by winning the 200 IM in 1:56.04.
Florida Gulf Coast's Stephanie Young was selected CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week. Young helped FGCU to a pair of victories in its season-opening meet at Georgia Tech, as the Eagles defeated Florida Atlantic and Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon. Young placed seventh in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 208.10, and followed that up with an eighth-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition with 208.30 points.
Also nominated for women's Swimmer of the Week: Jackie Kenline (Campbell), Leah Daniel (Florida Gulf Coast) and Ali Campbell (Georgia Southern).
Also nominated for men's Swimmer of the Week: Miguel Orellana (Howard).
