KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The 8-1-0 Davidson men's soccer team received votes for the second consecutive week in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Rankings. The latest poll was released on Tuesday afternoon.
Earning 27 points total, the 'Cats were effectively ranked 28th in the Top 25 poll.
Davidson has not been ranked nationally since the 2005 season. Soccer America ranked the 'Cats as high as No. 21.
In the last week, the 'Cats defeated College of Charleston (3-2 OT) and Georgia Southern (3-0) to start 2-0 in the Southern Conference. They will put their six-match winning streak on the line Tuesday night against Duke, ranked sixth nationally by Soccer America and ninth by the NSCAA.
Davidson is the only SoCon team receiving votes in the NSCAA poll. At 8-1 overall, the Wildcats boast the fourth-best winning percentage in the country (.889) and are looking to match the 10-1 start to the 1990 season. They lead the Southern Conference in shots per game (18.33), points per game (7.33) and goals per game (2.56). With 23 goals in nine games, the 'Cats are locked in a three-way tie for the sixth-best scoring offense in the nation.
After hosting Duke, the Wildcats will resume their conference schedule with a trip to Elon on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. match. Davidson will host conference foes Appalachian State (Oct. 14) and Furman (Oct. 17) next week. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
