SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson's Charlie Reiter has been named the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 29-October 5. Reiter tallied five points (2 goals, 1 assist) as he helped the Wildcats pick up two conference wins last week over College of Charleston (3-2 OT) and Georgia Southern (3-0).
The senior forward will look to extend his seven-match scoring streak Tuesday night against No. 6 Duke in Alumni Stadium at 7 p.m.
After falling behind College of Charleston, 2-0, Reiter helped spark the Wildcats' comeback last Wednesday. His corner kick was headed in by sophomore Allen Page to put Davidson on the board in the 72nd minute. The Westport, Conn., native tallied a goal of his own just 59 seconds later from 20 yards out to tie the match. Reiter then scored in the 24th minute against Georgia Southern to stake the Wildcats to an early 1-0 lead Saturday afternoon.
“Charlie is having a break-out season,” head coach Matt Spear. “His level of play, his confidence, and his impact in games are all soaring. He has a lot of ambition, so I know the early season surge will only inspire him more for a run in to the postseason.”
Reiter leads the conference in points (18) and is tied for the league lead with six assists. He is tied for tenth in the nation, averaging 2.0 points per game and is tied for eighth nationally with 0.67 assists per contest. Reiter has tallied at least one point in eight of nine games this season.
Reiter is the second Wildcat to win the weekly award this season as junior MF Alex Caskey received the same honor last week.
After hosting Duke, the Wildcats (8-1, 2-0 SoCon) will resume their conference schedule with a trip to Elon on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. match. Davidson will host conference foes Appalachian State (Oct. 14) and Furman (Oct. 17) next week. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
