Davidson Women Win Dual Meet with Coll. of Charleston; Men, Lose Close One

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Wildcat women defeated the College of Charleston Cougars, 151-89, picking up their first dual-meet victory of the season over their CCSA foe, while the Cougar men just edged the Wildcats, 124-112.
"Both teams responded well to the challenge presented by consecutive home and away meets," Young said. "We still have work to do, but we've demonstrated a good level of conditioning and are ready to focus more of our attention on the details that will enable successes as we approach championship meet time."
Coming back after swimming a dual meet against William & Mary Friday evening at Cannon Natatorium, the Wildcat women picked up their first win of the season behind seven individual titles.
"This was a nice win for the women today," head coach John Young said. "We challenged the team to demonstrate some versatility, and they responded with an array of well competed races."
Junior Lindsey Martin was a double winner for the Wildcat women, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:57.15 and the 400 free with a time of 4:33.92.
Junior Jessica Delgehausen was also an individual winner, winning the 100 free with a time of 1:01.20, and classmate Emily Castle finished first in the 50 free in 27.74.
In the diving competition, senior Linnea Buttermore won the 1-meter event with a score of 237.53 and finished second to teammate Kelsey Chisholm in the 3-meter. Chisholm won the 3-meter with a score of 227.33.
Sophomore Lauren Kamperman was the final individual winner for the Wildcat women, placing first in the 200 back with a time of 2:29.67.
"We knew the men would need to make up a deficit from the diving competition, and they nearly did so," Young said.
Freshman Drew Onken won a pair of individual titles to lead the Wildcat men. Onken finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.74 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.37.
Sophomore Curtis Chaney, junior Bryan Droll and sophomore Geoffrey Peitz were also individual winners for the Wildcat men. Chaney finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.15, and Droll won the 50 free for a second straight meet with a time of 24.70. Peitz finished out the Wildcat winning with a time of 2:08.51 in the 200 back.
Chaney and Droll also bookended the Wildcats' winning 400 freestyle relay, combining with freshman Wills Cooper and junior Tennant Brastow for the first-place time of 3:34.54. The Wildcat women swept their relays, winning both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle.
The Wildcats will return to action, hosting NC State at Cannon Natatorium on Saturday in a noon dual meet.
