
Onken Earns Second Straight CCSA Swimmer of the Week Honor

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After winning three individual titles and contributing to the winning 4x100 medley relay against East Carolina Saturday, freshman Drew Onken has been named CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week for a second straight time, for meets competed Oct. 12-18 and selected by the league office.
Undefeated on the day, Onken led the Wildcat men with three individual titles against the Pirates. He swept the breaststroke events with season-best times, finishing first in the 100 with a time of 59.70 and first in the 200 in 2:08.42. He won his third title with a season-best, winning time of 4:04.13 in the 400 IM.
Onken also combined with teammates Geoffrey Peitz, Miller Williams and Bryan Droll to win the 400 medley relay race in a season-best time of 3:31.06.
It is the second straight CCSA weekly honor for the freshman from Marietta, Ga, who took home the inaugural award of the 2009-10 season with three individual titles against Clemson on Oct 3.
The College of Charleston's Peter Gibbons was named CCSA Men's Diver of the Week after winning the 1-meter dive (231.50) and finishing second on the 3-meter (221.75) against Old Dominion.
Florida Gulf Coast's Leah Daniel was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week after leading the Eagles to their first-ever victory over the University of Miami at a tri-meet with Florida State. Daniel won both the 1000 free (10:12.89 and the 500 free (4:59.12) and finished second in the 400 IM (4:30.32).
Radford's Katie Shaffer were named CCSA's Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week with wins on both the 1- and 3-meter boards against College of Charleston. With a score of 202.64 on the 1-meter, she broke her previous school record by 11 points. Shaffer also won the 3-meter dive with 222.60 points.
Also nominated for men's Swimmer of the Week: Matthew Sherrier (College of Charleston), Steven Caudill (Gardner-Webb) and Miguel Orellana (Howard).
Also nominated for women's Swimmer of the Week: Jackie Kenline (Campbell), Sara Gardocki (College of Charleston), Lindsey Martin (Davidson), Kim Zachensky (Gardner-Webb), Chelsea Andrews (Howard) and Emily Turner (Radford).
Also nominated for women's Diver of the Week: Linnea Buttermore (Davidson) and Karmin McNamara (Florida Gulf Coast).
The Wildcats will return to action this weekend, traveling to Atlanta for a noon dual meet at Emory Saturday.
