UNC Greensboro Tops Davidson 34-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Kevin Cook scored a 4-3 victory in 174-pound weight class, but UNC Greensboro posted a 34-3 Southern Conference wrestling victory over Davidson Thursday night at Belk Arena.
Cook jumped out to an early lead at 174 with a first-period takedown to go up 2-0. With 20 seconds remaining in the period, the two wrestlers were knotted in a scoreless tie before Cook recorded the takedown for the opening points of the match. He then started the second period with a quick one-point escape and held on for the 4-3 win, his fifth of the season.
Classmate Sam O'Hair dropped a heartbreaker at 184, losing on an escape in the final five seconds of the match to fall 7-6. O'Hair battled back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the match at six with 20 seconds remaining, but was unable to force an overtime period as UNCG's Mikal McKee slipped his grip and took the win.
At 133, Alex Radsky was locked in a back-and-forth battle against UNC Greensboro's Casey Boyle, with the two wrestlers trading the lead for the first two periods. Radsky notched one point in the final frame, but Boyle received one point for the riding time advantage to push the match into the extra period, where he would score a two-point takedown for the victory.
The Spartans scored wins in the first seven weight classes before Cook picked up the lone Davidson victory on the night.
Davidson falls to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the SoCon with the loss. UNC Greensboro picks up their third league victory, moving to 3-1 in the conference, and 3-10 on the year.
The 'Cats will wrap up a three-match home swing when they play host to Appalachian State in a SoCon battle on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena.
