Davidson Plays Host to ASU on Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team begins its second go-around in the Southern Conference when it hosts Appalachian State on Saturday, Jan. 24.
The Opening Tip
The Wildcats (8-11, 7-3 SoCon) return home seeking to halt a three-game skid when they play ASU (3-14, 2-7) on Saturday at John M. Belk Arena with gametime set for 12 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series has Davidson within one game of tying the series as it trails 18-17. The Wildcats have won the last five straight meetings and eight of the last 10 overall.
Their last meeting saw the Wildcats hit the 90-point mark with a 95-75 win in Boone, N.C. as Alex Thompson matched a school record with 35 points, including a new school-and SoCon-record nine three-pointers. In the contest, Davidson matched a school record with 13 three-pointers.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson seeks to snap a three-game skid after dropping the back-end of its two-game road trip with a 74-65 setback at Samford on Monday.
•The Wildcats placed three players in the books in double figures in points, led by Mercedes Robinson's game-high 23 points.
•Robinson leads the Wildcats with a 15.6 ppg average, while ranking first in the league in rebounds with 9.9 average.
•The last eight games has seen Robinson hit the double-digit mark in points, while recording five double-doubles in that stretch. She has 10 double-doubles on the year.
•The senior has led the team in rebounding the past 10 games, averaging a even 11 rpg in that time.
•Davidson starts its second go-around in the conference after finishing 7-3 through the first 10 games.
•The last four games has seen Davidson go 37-40 from the charity stripe. The 'Cats lead the conference with a .780 free throw percentage, ranking them eighth in the nation.
•Davidson has four players in all averaging double digits in points against league foes.
•The Wildcats are one of two SoCon teams to have three players in the top-15 in scoring.
•This year has seen the 'Cats go 5-2 at home and are 25-6 the past three years at Belk Arena.
•In home games this year, Davidson is outscoring the opposition 72-64 and are shooting 41 percent from downtown (46-112).
•Davidson's last home game saw it give up a nine-point lead in the last five minutes for a 74-71 setback to College of Charleston, Jan. 12.
Scouting the Mountaineers
•Appalachian State is coming off the same road swing as Davidson, dropping both its contests at Samford and Chattanooga by the scores of 87-51 and 72-43.
•Since their last meeting with the Wildcats back on Dec. 6, the Mountaineers have gone just 2-8 that included a five-game losing streak.
•Pacing the ASU offense has been Brittany Mixon with a 10.9 ppg average, good for 13th in the conference. Her last time out vs. the Wildcats, Mixon dropped in 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. It was her second straight double-double against Davidson.
•Sam Ramirez also is averaging double digits at 10.1 ppg. She came off the bench for 19 points last time out vs. the Wildcats on 8-of-15 shooting.
•ASU is 1-10 in road games this year, having dropped two of their last three.
•Freshman Canesha Edwards is second in the league with her 8.6 rpg average. She has led the team nine times in rebounds, hitting the double-digit mark six of those times.
•The Mountaineers rank 4th overall in the conference in rebounding at 40.4, just behind the Wildcats (40.8).
•Appalachian State is one of just three teams in the league averaging over 10 steals a game. It has three players with over 30 steals on the season, led by Ramirez's 36 (4th in the league).
