DAVIDSON, N.C. - After being away from the friendly confines of Alumni Stadium for five matches over almost three weeks, the Davidson men's soccer team will return home Wednesday with one of the most important matches of the season - their Southern Conference opener against UNC Greensboro.
Kickoff between these two SoCon foes is scheduled for 7 p.m. For those who cannot make it out to the stadium, the match will be shown via live video streaming, which can be accessed by clicking here, and live audio which can be found here, in addition to the live stats link here.
“This is a big match for both teams,” said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “It's important to get off to a positive start in your first conference game. UNCG is always a talented, determined team, but since it's a home game, our players should have an extra degree of toughness and determination.”
Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson comes into the match with a record of 1-7-1, and rounding out a five-match road trip with a loss at South Carolina last Saturday. Sophomore Alex Caskey leads the 'Cats with two goals and two assists for six points on the season. Caskey and junior Machel Turner are the two Wildcats who have recorded a pair of goals on the year, with four players having registered one scoring strike. Some of the Davidson players who are making appearances on the latest SoCon statistical leaderboard include junior Charlie Reiter, whose team-high 18 shots this season are good for a tie for sixth place in the conference, and Caskey and Turner, tied for ninth in goals scored. In goal, junior Robby Goldsberry leads the squad with 32 saves in eight matches, which is the second-highest total in the SoCon, with his 4.00 saves-per-game average ranking fourth.

They have yet to win a true away match, with two wins coming at home and one on a neutral site.
