ROCK HILL, S.C. — Senior Caroline Sanker made her season debut, finishing fourth overall to help the Davidson Wildcat women's cross country team to a third-place team finish at the Winthrop Invitational Saturday morning.
Sanker finished with a time of 18:21 to pace the 'Cats, who amassed 110 points to finish just a point behind South Carolina (109). With six runners in the top 12, Louisville finished first with just 31 points.
Freshman Jane Gay continued to impress, finishing 10th overall with a time of 18:39. Sophomore Lauren Childs (27th, 19:06), senior Emily King (29th, 19:09) and sophomore Heather Conarroe (40th, 19:23) also scored for the Wildcats.
"I am really pleased with our performance today!" head coach Jen Straub said. "Caroline and Jane both ran great races, and our three-four-five-and-six runners ran great races. I am very happy with how we are running right now as a team; we just need to keep running up to our potential!"
Davidson also finished just ahead of SoCon rivals Appalachian (118) and Elon (153), as well as Greensboro (241), Wofford (426) and Georgia Southern (437).
After a weekend off, the 'Cats return to action at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Oct. 4 in Louisville, Ky.
