DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second straight year, junior Phillip Compeau (Wilkesboro, N.C.) of the Davidson College men's tennis team was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Team by garnering first team honors this year as selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. Last season Compeau was named to the second team.
Compeau now goes onto the national Academia All-America ballot by way of earning a first team nod, which will be voted on May 28.
Compeau, a four-year letterwinner, was part of the men's at-large ballot that included sports like men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's swimming, and golf.
The senior finished his Wildcat career by leading Davidson to a 14-8 overall record and a trip to the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. Compeau was one of the 'Cats' main doubles players this past spring. He fashioned a 7-15 overall doubles record, earning five of the wins at the No. 2 spot. Davidson as a team went 11-11 at the No. 2 position. Compeau mainly teamed up with sophomore Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) during his senior campaign, going 6-11 as a pair.
For his career, Compeau finished with six singles wins, while the doubles specialist sported a 30-32 record during his four-year playing career.
A three-time All-SoCon Academic team member, Compeau also excelled in the classroom. He finished with a GPA of 3.96 and graduated with a degree in math.
