Five Straight at Home, M. Tennis Takes 6-1 Decision vs. South Carolina State

DAVIDSON, N.C. – By taking five of the six singles matches and sweeping the doubles, the Davidson men's tennis team scored their fifth straight win at home in earning a 6-1 decision against South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats improved to 13-5 overall with the non-conference win and 8-3 against non-league opponents. The Bulldogs fell to 11-3 with the loss.
Davidson opened the match by taking all three doubles matches for the first time since it swept all three spots against Presbyterian on Feb. 16. Getting back on the winning track was the team of senior Phillip Compeau and sophomore Eric Noble with an 8-6 win at No. 2. The duo snapped their four-match losing streak to improve to 5-8 on the year.
Noble along with four other of his teammates then scored singles wins at positions No. 1-5 to seal the 6-1 win. The sophomore earned a two-set win over Radek Pivonka with a victory at No. 2 to push his singles mark to 9-8.
The trio of senior Flaviu Simihaian, freshman Walker Lyons and sophomore Sam Burns each picked up their 10th singles wins of the season with victories at No. 1, 4 and 5.
Finally, junior Ethan Jaffee take home his third singles win in his last four matches by scoring a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Jan Langer at No. 3.
The 'Cats turn around and travel to Greenville, N.C. for a 12 p.m. match against East Carolina tomorrow, Apr. 6.
