DAVIDSON, N.C. — After setting a pair of school records and winning two individual titles to lead the Wildcat women's swimming and diving team to the inaugural championship at the 2008 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association championships, freshman Lindsey Martin has been named to the 2008 Division I Women's Mid-Major All-America Swimming team by CollegeSwimming.com.
Martin was one of 77 swimmers given honorable mention status by earning an NCAA 'B' standard during the 2007-08 season. Thirty women earned All-America distinction based on their qualification for the 2008 Women's NCAA Division I Championships, and for a second consecutive year, Alicia Aemisegger of Princeton was named Women's Mid-Major Swimmer-of-the-Year.
At the 2008 CCSAs, Martin won both the 50 and 100 free. With the top time in the morning session in the 50 free (23.76), she advanced to the finals and won the event in the evening session with a time of 23.62. She also recorded the top time of the prelims (51.52) to advance to the championship final in the 100 free and won that heat with a time of 51.12 for her second individual title.
"Women's Division I swimming has never been healthier, and that's evident by the breadth of teams represented," CollegeSwimming.com director Greg Earhart said. "These thirty women and their coaches have shown that you can succeed outside of the big money conferences."
