Three Wildcats Honored By SoCon W. Tennis Coaches

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Kelsey Linville (Columbus, Ohio) earned her third straight All-Southern Conference first team honor, while the Davidson women's tennis team had two other players earn league recognition as announced on Friday, Apr. 18 by the league office prior to the opening of the SoCon tournament this weekend.
Besides Linville's first team nod, sophomore Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) was named to the second team as it was picked by individual positions, while senior Meredith Skeeters was given the Sportsmanship Award as voted on by the league's coaches.
Davidson, who was 7-2 in league matches, finished the regular season with its seventh straight winning campaign at 17-5 that included a five-match winning streak along with two four-match winning streaks. The Wildcats also finished with a 10-1 mark at home, the fourth year in a row its tallied at least 10 wins on its home courts.
Linville capped off her senior campaign with her fourth straight All-SoCon bid to either the first or second team after finishing the regular season with a 12-8 singles mark, including a 6-3 record against league opponents. Her 12 wins pushed her career total to 73 during her four-year career.
Coming off a 17-5 freshman year, Berry moved up to the No. 2 singles spot as a sophomore and responded with a 13-7 overall mark, including a 6-3 record in the SoCon. She finished off the regular season winning four of her last five matches that included two wins in league play. Berry is the 10th Wildcat to earn second team honors and first since junior Lora Dushanova was named to the second team in 2006.
Skeeters had a solid senior year, rattling off a 14-3 singles record that included a team-best tying 11-match winning streak. The senior tri-captain also earned SoCon Player of the Week honors, garnering the award on Mar. 18. Skeeters was 5-1 at No. 5 singles and 7-2 at No. 6 singles, while picking up single wins at No. 3 and 4. She also went undefeated in doubles action with a perfect 5-0 record.
Furman swept the Freshman and Coach of the Year honors, while UNC Greensboro's Alejandra Guerra was named Player of the Year by the coaches.

Wofford enters the tournament at 12-7 overall and earned the sixth seed by way of its 4-5 league record. The Terriers dropped their last four matches, including a 6-1 decision against the Wildcats on Apr. 11 on the road.
